These are just some ideas I had for provoking the audience on how to change their lifestyles in order to relieve the stress that they are putting the NHS under.

I had to think about now I would not come across as offensive and so I considered making something that was not just a poster this time. I considered ideas such as workshops or infographic videos with animations to change it up for the sake of changing and exploring different ways to design.

some of the ideas involve workshops that target primary and secondary school kids involved and make raise awareness on the effects of  what a poor lifestyle could have on them and others around them and the stress the NHS has to deal with. These ideas were inspired by my family and girlfriend who all work at the local hospital.

Here is a different form of research I have been conducting – real accounts from real doctors and nurses.

From these videos, I have come to the realisation that tackling an issue as big as the NHS and how it is run is far too complex to ever find a specific solution to so I will need to find a more specific angle.

The last video research of the TED talk enlightened me that a large majority of illnesses and diseases are all preventable (things like smoking, drinking, poor diet and not exercising). And the growing number of people living longer mean there is a larger population to care for and it is putting stress on the NHS. It is not down to underfunding as the NHS’ funds increase every year.

So I am thinking to target my focus to something specific within the NHS. Something to raise awareness to encourage without offending the public to change their lifestyle for the better in order to relieve the stress on the NHS.

What I see:

  • a group of medical staff
  • very diverse group
  • seems like a positive vibe in the image
  • seem to be in a clinic of some kind

What makes me think that:

  • the medical staff are in uniforms to connote that they are at least nurses
  • the doctors robes communicate to the audience that they are doctors

What more can I find:

  • the white background along with the white doctor robes allow for the doctors in blue to stand out more
  • possibly highlighting their importance over the others?

screenshot 2019-01-28 at 20.09.10

What I see:

  • a busy hospital lobby/staff area
  • a nurse looking exhausted

What makes me think that:

  • the nurses facial expression gives the impression that she is about to collapse from over work
  • everyone in the image does not seem positive due to their facial expressions
  • no one has positive body language -having an up-straight body posture makes them seem deflated

What more can I find:

  • blurred background connotes that the nurse is in her own world
  • the world around her is a blur because she is overworked and needs a break
  • the world around her seems to be speeding passed her

What I see:

  • protesters
  • signs on sticks
  • a banner
  • signs and banner has slogans on them relating to the healthcare service

What makes me think that:

  • the red type and colour is used to draw the audience’s eye
  • the red also creates a notion of emergency
  • this is emphasised by the protest which seems urgently about the healthcare system
  • the assumed doctors in the image are wearing their doctors robes to highlight them amongst the crowd

What more can I find:

  • can deduce this is taking place in america because I see the name Obama on one of the signs

screenshot 2019-01-28 at 20.09.31

What I see:

  • protesters holding signs
  • and a banner
  • three cards displaying  999
  • flags with the protest’s organisation

What makes me think that:

  • the white being used against the purple allows the colour to stand out and hail audiences
  • nurses are wearing their uniforms to make it seem like they have just left work to come to the protest or were on their way to work
  • a union of people to emphasise solidarity

What more can I find:

  • purple and green are complimentary colours which makes the protest display more visible and clear

screenshot 2019-01-28 at 20.09.36

What I see:

  • black and white image
  • protesters
  • holding sticks on sticks
  • they look happy

What makes me think that:

  • all carrying the sign which has the same slogan
  • this symbolises unity
  • emphasises solidarity
  • black and white image – can assume it is a photo taken from a long time ago

What more can I find:

  • a very inclusive group of people

What I see:

  • two outlines of hands
  • one is full of blood and the other is being filled? (assumed)
  • blood drop in the middle between them
  • blue background

What makes me think that:

  • this hand pose is iconic from the famous painting which depicts God and Adam
  • the red colour symbolises blood
  • the drop of blood in the middle connotes a manner of exchange which communicates to audiences to donate blood

What more can I find:

  • the limpness of the hand at the bottom identifies it as the receiver of the blood
  • the pointed finger gesture designates that it is the one providing

screenshot 2019-01-28 at 20.08.17

What I see:

  • book with a stethoscope
  • the cord part is in the shape of a heartbeat

What makes me think that:

  • the heartbeat shape symbolises life
  • the stethoscope is symbolic of medical practitioners
  • the white stethoscope against the background emphasises the notion of doctors/nurses

What more can I find:

  • stethoscope position to be viewed in a birds eye position to make it more clearer for audiences to see

screenshot 2019-01-28 at 20.09.42

What I see:

  • a logo in the shape of a heart and a cross
  • the heart and the cross interweave
  • uses a pale colour for the line art

What makes me think that:

  • the heart and cross shape are symbolic of care
  • the heart is usually a symbol of love
  • the interwoven nature of the symbol emphasises the health aspect of the message
  • the colour used is commonly associated with the colour of scrubs those in the medical field wear on duty

What more can I find:

  • there is a hint of negative space where the heart and cross join or it could be just the tail or start end of the line art

What I see:

  • girl in a field
  • she is a skipping rope
  • her right arm is holding onto an IV stand
  • she is not wearing any shoes

What makes me think that:

  • the split image communicates to audiences that the girl has had or will have stayed in the hospital
  • could either be a positive or negative image depending on the context the audience chooses
  • rope and the IV drip tube are connected to emphasise the link between the two settings

What more can I find:

  • hospital lamp light is replacing the sun
  • contrast between the environments
  • there are some clouds in the sky – foreboding?
  • clouds are possibly linked to the girl ending up in hospital

screenshot 2019-01-28 at 20.07.40

What I see:

  • fisherman coloured in red
  • he is holding a fishing rod and at the same holding an IV drip
  • he seems happy
  • he is also transparent against the drip

What makes me think that:

  • smile in contrast with the Iv drip is to emphasise the effectiveness of the image
  • contrast between outside attire with the assumed inside attire which will come with the IV stand
  • fish is similarly positioned with the drip bag for comedic/morbid connotation – life and death

What more can I find:

  • IV drip does not stand out as much as the red man
  • it seems to be a foreshadowing effect almost like a symbol of one’s mortality

What I see:

  • individuals undressing to reveal their work uniforms underneath
  • white background connote professionalism
  • facelessness allows to that the audience can self project themselves onto these figures

What makes me think that:

  • the way the people are taking off their upper clothing seems very casual
  • denotes how normal the people are in the poster
  • makes it easier for audience to relate to them

What more can I find:

  • the pose and body language of the models make them appear that they are just normal people, they are able to preform their duties when they are required

What I see:

  • woman in military uniform
  • half submerged in water
  • modern buildings in the background
  • clear sky with few clouds

What makes me think that:

  • the woman’s clothes are half submerged in water to symbolise that she is part of the navy
  • the top half is not in uniform to represent that she is also a normal person
  • this emphasises that anyone can sign up and join their ranks
  • clear skies symbolise a bright future
  • buildings in a the background could be a school to communicate that she is a new recruit or it could be a location somewhere in the world to show that the navy travel all around the world to be more enticing.

What more can I find:

  • she seems comfortable in the water to communicate that it does not bother her that she is wet
  • there is not sea floor shown, to possibly symbolise that navy soldiers are one with the sea
  • her facial expression looks focused and determined to emphasise the military aspect

screenshot 2019-01-28 at 20.07.33

What I see:

  • a nurse in uniform
  • possibly the same nurse but facing away to show a mirror image
  • other image of persona facing away is in casual attire
  • nurse seems ready to work and looking determined

What makes me think that:

  • the nurse is wearing a widely recognised uniform associated with health and care
  • her civilian clothes juxtapose the nurse uniform
  • this is to emphasise that anyone can be a helping hand
  • mona looks casual like her job is not too hard to entice and encourage others

What more can I find:

  • the back to back pose symbolises how the two sides of her personality have a place in the work place and in her personal life as well

Project X Groups 3: Final result and Presentation

We chose to use this logo design for our project as we thought it was simplistic and eye catching, I personally would not choose the type and would make the block object thinner to make it look more like a wooden palette but this is a group project and I cannot have everything my way.

Cuan then made a prototype booklet cover with instructions. The logo looks better against the green and covered in wholesome foods but I personally do not think it holds up as a stand alone logo as it is too complicated and detailed. I like the green colour we decided on because it is not too bright or dark and looks soothing.

Our aim was to make the whole process as simple as possible and this is shown through the simplistic instructions both in the cooking instructions through the use of universally recognisable symbols in the west and the general promotional instruction at the bottom of this text.

Project X Group 2: Development

In the second Week of project X we had a few visitors from West Kent mind to talk to us and educate all of us about our designated mental health issues and we gained a lot of insight about ours through these visits.

Unfortunately, one of our group could not make it during this process so it was up to the two of us to carry on developing our ideas.

We took into account of our previous idea for an application and after a lot of discussion and brainstorming we decided that an application was for one, not a very good idea because we discovered that a lot of groups already had that idea and we wanted to make something different that played to our strengths.

We were discussing about other ways to effectively lessen Anxiety and Depression when the subject of food came up. This led to one of us asking if the other knew what ‘Blue Apron’ was (it is a food delivery service where the ingredients are delivered to your door and you would have to cook it yourself) and we thought that it would be a good idea for a few reasons.

  • one of the causes for anxiety and depression is poor nutrition, our hypothetical idea would only include highly nutritious ingredients that are proven to increased well being.
  • Cooking could be seen as another task which would cause more anxiety in others but our idea would require only to be placed in a pot or a pan and cooked for a certain amount of time since ease of use is the most important thing.
  • it would hopefully encourage a healthy life skill in cooking.
  • we realised it would be expensive but we discusses with a member of West Kent mind that it is common for a lot of companies actually sponsor charities so that they may make these types of things possible.

20190125_11223871613992.jpg

We then decided to go ahead with this idea as it felt like something different to what everyone else was doing so we then went ahead and started designing ideas for the service starting with the logo. The service would be called ‘Green Palette’ as both a nod to ‘Blue Apron’ and a play on words with the palette of the tongue and a delivery palette.
